Mugdock Castle when the sun comes out


Mugdock was a stronghold of the Graham family from the fourteenth century – apart from a brief spell in Campbell ownership after James Graham, Marquis of Montrose’s campaigns on behalf of Charles I during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms.

Alongside the medieval castle which was extended in the 15th century, a Victorian house was built. This was gutted by fire in the 1960s. Most of the Victorian building has gone now, but the range cooker , bizarrely, is still there.
